SBI announced 1,500 Probationary Officer vacancies. These include 1,446 regular vacancies and 54 backlog vacancies. The number of posts is provisional and may change according to the Bank’s actual staffing requirements.

SBI PO Eligibility Criteria 2026

Candidates must satisfy the nationality, age, educational qualification and number-of-attempt requirements prescribed by SBI. Admission to an examination stage is provisional until the Bank verifies the candidate’s original documents and eligibility.

Candidates must possess a graduation degree in any discipline from a recognised university or an equivalent qualification recognised by the Central Government.

SBI PO Prelims Exam Pattern 2026

The SBI PO Preliminary Examination is an online objective test carrying a total of 100 marks. It contains 100 questions divided across English Language, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability.

Each section has a separate duration of 20 minutes, making the total examination duration one hour. SBI has stated that there will be no sectional cut-off in the Preliminary Examination.

SBI PO Descriptive Test 2026

The Descriptive Test is conducted immediately after the Main Objective Test. Candidates must type their answers on a computer within 30 minutes.

The test assesses communication skills through email writing, situation analysis and either report writing or precis writing. It contains three questions carrying a total of 30 marks.

SBI PO Negative Marking

Negative marking applies to objective questions in both the Preliminary and Main examinations. One-fourth of the marks assigned to a question will be deducted when a candidate gives an incorrect answer.

SBI PO Final Selection and Merit List

Candidates must qualify separately in the Main Examination and Phase III. Marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination are not included in the final merit list.

SBI PO Salary 2026

The SBI Probationary Officer post is placed in Junior Management Grade Scale-I. The starting basic pay is ₹48,480 with four advance increments under the applicable officer pay scale.

In addition to basic pay, selected officers are eligible for allowances and benefits such as Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, City Compensatory Allowance, NPS, medical facilities, leave fare concession and lease rental facilities according to the Bank’s rules.

SBI PO Joining, Bond and Probation Period

Selected candidates must complete the basic banking knowledge course prescribed by SBI before joining. They will also be required to execute a service bond of ₹2 lakh to serve the Bank for a minimum period of three years.
