SBI PO 2026 Overview
The State Bank of India is recruiting graduates for appointment as Probationary Officers in Junior Management Grade Scale-I. The following table provides a quick overview of the SBI PO 2026 recruitment.
SBI PO 2026 Important Dates
SBI announced a tentative recruitment schedule covering online registration, call letters, Preliminary and Main examinations, Phase III and the final result. Candidates should regularly check the SBI Careers website because the examination dates may be changed by the Bank.
SBI PO Vacancy 2026
SBI announced 1,500 Probationary Officer vacancies. These include 1,446 regular vacancies and 54 backlog vacancies. The number of posts is provisional and may change according to the Bank’s actual staffing requirements.
Reservation is available for SC, ST, OBC Non-Creamy Layer, EWS and eligible PwBD candidates according to the applicable Government of India rules.
SBI PO PwBD Vacancies 2026
SBI has provided horizontal reservation for eligible Persons with Benchmark Disabilities. PwBD reservation is applied across the main categories and is not added separately to the total of 1,500 vacancies.
Candidates claiming PwBD reservation must possess a valid disability certificate issued by a competent authority. The certificate should be dated on or before the last date of online registration.
SBI PO Eligibility Criteria 2026
Candidates must satisfy the nationality, age, educational qualification and number-of-attempt requirements prescribed by SBI. Admission to an examination stage is provisional until the Bank verifies the candidate’s original documents and eligibility.
Providing incorrect information or failing to produce the required certificates may result in cancellation of candidature at any stage.
SBI PO Age Limit 2026
The candidate’s age is calculated as of 1 April 2026. The minimum age is 21 years and the maximum age is 30 years for candidates who do not claim any upper-age relaxation.
Candidates must have been born not later than 1 April 2005 and not earlier than 2 April 1996. Both dates are included.
SBI PO Age Relaxation 2026
Upper-age relaxation is available to eligible reserved-category, PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates. Applicants must produce the relevant certificates in the prescribed format when requested by SBI.
Cumulative age relaxation under two or more categories is not permitted. Candidates should therefore claim the category that is applicable under the official recruitment rules.
SBI PO Educational Qualification 2026
Candidates must possess a graduation degree in any discipline from a recognised university or an equivalent qualification recognised by the Central Government.
Final-year or final-semester students were permitted to apply provisionally. However, they must be able to produce proof that they completed graduation on or before 30 September 2026 if called for the interview.
SBI PO Application Fee 2026
The SBI PO application fee was ₹750 for Unreserved, EWS and OBC candidates. SC, ST and PwBD candidates were exempt from paying the application fee.
The fee was payable through the online application portal. Once paid, it was non-refundable and could not be reserved for another recruitment or examination.
SBI PO Number of Attempts
SBI limits the number of permissible chances according to the candidate’s category. A candidate who has already used the maximum permissible number of chances is not eligible to participate again under the same category.
Appearing in the SBI PO Main Examination is counted as one chance. Merely appearing in the Preliminary Examination is not counted as an attempt.
SBI PO Selection Process 2026
The SBI PO selection process is conducted in three phases. Candidates must first qualify in the online Preliminary Examination to become eligible for the Main Examination.
Candidates shortlisted through the Main Examination are called for the Psychometric Test, Group Exercise and Personal Interview. Preliminary Examination marks are not considered when preparing the final merit list.
SBI PO Prelims Exam Pattern 2026
The SBI PO Preliminary Examination is an online objective test carrying a total of 100 marks. It contains 100 questions divided across English Language, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability.
Each section has a separate duration of 20 minutes, making the total examination duration one hour. SBI has stated that there will be no sectional cut-off in the Preliminary Examination.
SBI PO Mains Exam Pattern 2026
The SBI PO Main Examination consists of an Objective Test and a Descriptive Test. The Objective Test contains 170 questions carrying 200 marks and has a total duration of three hours.
Each objective-test section has a separate time limit. Candidates must obtain the minimum qualifying marks in each section and the minimum aggregate marks decided by SBI.
SBI PO Descriptive Test 2026
The Descriptive Test is conducted immediately after the Main Objective Test. Candidates must type their answers on a computer within 30 minutes.
The test assesses communication skills through email writing, situation analysis and either report writing or precis writing. It contains three questions carrying a total of 30 marks.
SBI PO Negative Marking
Negative marking applies to objective questions in both the Preliminary and Main examinations. One-fourth of the marks assigned to a question will be deducted when a candidate gives an incorrect answer.
No penalty is applied when a question is left unanswered. Candidates should therefore avoid random guessing where they are unsure of the correct answer.
SBI PO Psychometric Test, Group Exercise and Interview
Candidates shortlisted through the Main Examination will participate in Phase III. SBI will conduct a Psychometric Test to prepare a personality profile, which may be placed before the interview panel.
The Group Exercise carries 20 marks and the Personal Interview carries 30 marks. The minimum qualifying marks for the Group Exercise and Interview will be decided by the Bank.
SBI PO Final Selection and Merit List
Candidates must qualify separately in the Main Examination and Phase III. Marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination are not included in the final merit list.
The Main Examination score is converted to 75 marks, while the combined Group Exercise and Interview score is converted to 25 marks. The final merit list is therefore prepared out of 100 normalised marks.
SBI PO Salary 2026
The SBI Probationary Officer post is placed in Junior Management Grade Scale-I. The starting basic pay is ₹48,480 with four advance increments under the applicable officer pay scale.
In addition to basic pay, selected officers are eligible for allowances and benefits such as Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, City Compensatory Allowance, NPS, medical facilities, leave fare concession and lease rental facilities according to the Bank’s rules.
SBI PO Joining, Bond and Probation Period
Selected candidates must complete the basic banking knowledge course prescribed by SBI before joining. They will also be required to execute a service bond of ₹2 lakh to serve the Bank for a minimum period of three years.
On joining, candidates will be designated as Probationary Officers and may remain on probation for two years. Their performance will be continuously assessed according to the Bank’s prevailing policy.
